Description:
A terracotta, stirrup-spouted, figural vessel of a seated figure with his legs concealed under his tunic and his hands resting on his knees. His crossed legs are incised on the underside of the vessel. He is wearing an elaborately decorated striped hooded tunic with tassels, and has a high karat gold nose ring. The vessel is painted in red-brown and cream.
The ancient authenticity of the vessel was confirmed by a thermoluminescence test. A copy of the TL test report accompanies the object.

Moche III-IV, circa 300 - 600 C.E.

Dutch private collection; with Arte Primitivo, New York, in 2003; before that U.S. west coast private collection, before 1970
Condition:
Intact, and in excellent condition; two minuscule holes from taking samples for the TL test; there is no way of knowing whether or not the ancient nose ring was originally belonging to this vessel or to another one.
