This is a shabti with a lovely warm turquoise-blue colour. There is a single column of text on the front, the remainder of the inscription is on the back pillar. The text gives the name of the owner: Djedkhonsuiuefankh (Dd xnsw iw=f anx), as well as that of his mother, possibly reading Paestjau(emawy?)mut (pA=s TAw (m awy) Mwt). Mounted on an old collection base.
For the name of the owner see Hermann Ranke, Die ägyptischen Personennamen (3 volumes, Glückstadt - Hamburg, 1935-1976), Volume I, p. 412 no. 4; for Paestjauemawymut ibid. p. 128, no. 15.
Height 9.8 cm without base, 13.3 cm including base.
Private collection, bought at auction, Christie’s South Kensington, London, sale 7952 of 8 April 1998, part of lot 300; previously private UK collection, bought in the 1930s-1940s.
Intact with some minor discolouring and encrustation as visible on the photographs; the only damage (a few minor chips) is not on the shabti but on the modern base, on which the object was mounted long ago. Lovely colour!
