Harmakhis

harmakhis.jpg Harmakhis is the Greek form of the Egyptian Her-em-akhet ("Horus in the horizon"). This is one of the forms of the god Horus, closely related to but different from the god Harakhte ("Horus of the horizon").

From the New Kingdom on the sphinx of Giza was venerated as a form of Harmakhis, but actually it is a statue of king Khafre (4th Dynasty, Old Kingdom), which was later seen as a statue of the god.
